Sun and Surf Safety
Australian beaches are beautiful, however never underestimate the power of the Pacific Ocean. Always swim between the red and yellow flags in a patrolled beach and heed lifeguards’ advice. Gold Coast beaches are patrolled by professional lifeguards and volunteers (weekends and school holidays). Remember, SLIP, SLOP and SLAP!
Banks
Banks are open from 9.00am till 4.30pm Monday to Friday with selected banks open Saturday morning. ATMs are widely used, however most charge a $2 transaction fee.
Currency
Australian Dollars are available from one of many foreign exchange kiosks, most banks and both the Brisbane and Coolangatta Airports.

Tipping
Australians do not expect tips, however not many say “no” to one either.
Bars
The minimum age for the purchase and consumption of alcohol is 18.
Smoking
Queensland has a strict “No Smoking” policy in indoor public places, and around shopping and dining areas. The minimum age for purchasing cigarettes is 18 years.
